Shrimp and Ground Beef Dirty Rice Recipe

I am a huge fan of Southern Cajun cooking. This recipe is a little bit different from your traditional dirty rice recipes, but the flavor is amazing and it has the perfect amount of spice. The cooking time is very fast and before you know it, you have a pretty healthy and hearty dinner! It would be great for a weeknight meal or a lunch on the weekend. Enjoy!!

Shrimp and Ground Beef Dirty Rice (print recipe)

What you need:
1/2 pound ground beef
1 medium onion, diced
1 green pepper, diced
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 celery ribs, thinly sliced
3/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
3/4 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon thyme
salt and pepper, if desired
2 cups chicken broth
2 cups instant brown rice
12 ounces medium cooked shrimp, peeled, deveined, and tails removed
bacon grease or olive oil

Directions:
In a large saucepan, brown ground beef, onion, pepper, garlic and celery in some bacon grease until ground beef is cooked through. While that is cooking, season it with the cayenne, paprika, thyme, salt and pepper.

Add chicken broth, bring to a boil and add brown rice. Reduce heat. Cover and cook for about 10 minutes, until rice is tender. Add shrimp, stir, cover and remove from heat. Set aside for 5 minutes and serve!
