Traveling Fun... Lolo's Chicken & Waffles Restaurant in Phoenix, Arizona

It's been a long time... but I'm super excited to announce Restaurant Reviews are back! In addition to recipes and books, I'm also bringing back restaurant posts and adding some travel posts as well!

Traveling fun... Lo-Lo's Chicken & Waffles in Phoenix, Arizona! Total soul comfort food with classic fried chicken, drinks and much more!

First up is Lo-Lo's Chicken and Waffles! I recently visited Phoenix with my boyfriend and this amazing restaurant was our first foodie stop! I'm a huge soul food lover, but there's not a lot of it to be found in Minnesota, especially good, authentic soul food!

We stayed near Phoenix airport, so the location we visited was just a short drive from our hotel. The weather was gorgeous so we decided to sit outside on the patio and enjoy the 80 degree temps! Minnesota is obviously still pretty cold in March, so this was a nice treat for us to enjoy the patio this time of year!

The decor of the building is super cool! Brick walls, eclectic lighting and tons of interesting stuff to check out!

The patio was comfy and shaded. There was also a fireplace with seating around for everyone to enjoy. It's such an inviting and friendly environment. The staff was wonderful and attentive and we only had about a 15 minute wait during lunch on a Saturday!

Everything about this meal screamed old school, comfort food. They serve your water in a huge mason jar, and the drinks are served in smaller ones as well.

Of course I had to start off with a cocktail. And what fun cocktails they have! When you check out the "drank" menu, you can find quite a few that are made with Kool-aid. Let's be real here... this is genius! Why haven't I thought of this before? I decided to try the signature drank "Lo-Lo's Punch" which is a blend of red berry vodka, red Kool-aid and pineapple juice.

Can we say yum?? It comes served with a strawberry and tastes pretty incredible! Here's a photo of me enjoying my cocktail :)

We didn't order any chicken and waffle meals, but I ordered #13 Lil C off the Lo-Lo's Hood Classics Menu!

Two fried chicken thighs and your choice of mac and cheese or beans and rice for a side. I chose the mac and cheese, and I'm SO glad I did! The chicken was super flavorful and juicy, everything you'd expect for true southern fried chicken. The mac and cheese was classic! Nice and cheesy and perfect with a few dashes of hot sauce on top!

I also ordered a side of dirty rice! I love dirty rice and this was definitely different from any I've ever ate before! Different, as in authentic! Spicy and packed full of flavor. A definite must try!

My boyfriend loves his catfish, so he ordered the catfish and fries basket! This is some of the best catfish both of us have ever eaten and the fries were seasoned perfectly. We actually traded each other a piece of chicken for catfish so we both could try some of each!

I can't say enough great things about this restaurant! The menu is huge and the names of the dishes are fun! There's so much to choose from and I'm sure everything is fantastic just like the meal we ate! We were super impressed and if I ever stumble across one of their locations, I'll definitely stop back again!
