Recipe tips and substitution ideas:
- Swap the Swiss cheese for provolone, cheddar, mozzarella, or pepper jack to change up the flavor. Instead of ham, you can use deli turkey, roast beef, or chicken—whatever you have on hand. If you don’t have Hawaiian rolls, try using soft dinner rolls, brioche buns, or even mini croissants for a buttery twist.
- Mayo can be replaced with mustard, garlic aioli, or even a light layer of cream cheese. You can also adjust the glaze by adding brown sugar, a splash of honey or maple syrup for extra sweetness, or mix in a bit of hot sauce or crushed red pepper if you like a little heat.
- Leftovers can be reheated in the oven or air fryer for best texture.
