One of my favorite things to order when I go out to eat is a burger. I've found some of my new favorite burgers that way-
 jalapeno bacon cheeseburger anyone? But eating out can get expensive pretty quick so I've learned to make restaurant style burgers at home.

I have a mild obsession with mushrooms and I look for opportunities to cook them frequently. It's no big surprise that I decided upon topping a hamburger with mushrooms and cheese. The usual cheese pairing with mushrooms is Swiss but I'm the only one who really likes it so I used Provolone. The result was a juicy burger with gooey cheese and garlic buttery mushrooms. So good, people.

Mushroom and Provolone Burgers (click here to print recipe)
Makes four hamburgers

What you need:
For the burgers:
1 1/2 pounds ground chuck (80/20 ground beef)
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
4 deli slices Provolone cheese
4 hamburger buns 

For the mushroom topping:
8 ounces button mushrooms, cleaned and sliced
1 Tablespoon butter
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
pinch of salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Combine the meat, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper in a bowl.
Form into 4 patties and cook in a skillet or griddle over medium high heat until done. 
Melt the the butter in a separate skillet.
Add the mushrooms and season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
Cook for 3-4 minutes or until tender and starting to brown.
Place 1 slice of cheese on each patty and melt
Place on buns and top with mushrooms
Serve hot
