Today I'm sharing a pretty amazing book with all of you! Diane Chamberlain happens to be one of my favorite authors, and this is her newest release!

Pretending to Dance goes over family issues and secrets, adoptions, teen and adult dilemmas and so much more!

Here is the book description from Goodreads:

Molly Arnette is very good at keeping secrets. She lives in San Diego with a husband she adores, and they are trying to adopt a baby because they can't have a child on their own. But the process of adoption brings to light many questions about Molly's past and her family—the family she left behind in North Carolina twenty years before.

The mother she says is dead but who is very much alive. The father she adored and whose death sent her running from the small community of Morrison's Ridge. Her own birth mother whose mysterious presence in her family raised so many issues that came to a head.

The summer of twenty years ago changed everything for Molly and as the past weaves together with the present story, Molly discovers that she learned to lie in the very family that taught her about pretending.

If she learns the truth about her beloved father's death, can she find peace in the present to claim the life she really wants?

And my thoughts:

This books is beautifully written. As the chapters alternate from teenage Molly to adult Molly, you learn alot about how things in her childhood still affect her adulthood.

I loved the experiences that Molly had in her teen years, they remind me of things that most teens go through. Hanging out with friends, doing some of the forbidden things that we aren't supposed to be doing, as well as taking trips and spending time with her disabled father.

Molly as an adult has alot of unresolved issues from the tragic turn of events that happened during that summer in her teen years. She has cut off her family, and now only has her husband to lean on.

The struggle that they go through with trying to adopt is very real, and you experience the emotion they are going through when flipping through the pages of the book.

All the characters are likable, and their story is very real. I really loved this book, and I found myself glued to the pages. I learned alot about multiple sclerosis and how it affects not only the person, but their friends and family.

I rated this book 4 out of 5 stars on Goodreads and would recommend it to anyone who is a fan of Jodi Picoult, or Kristin Hannah! If you'd like to purchase this book, click here!

  1. Like all of Ms. chamberlain's books, this was excellent. Full of suspense, love, and a story you wanted to get to the end of but somehow didn't want to end.
