Lavender Margaritas are the kind of cocktail that feel a little fancy, a little floral, and completely irresistible. If there’s a lavender craft cocktail on a menu, I always have to order it, it’s one of my favorite flavor profiles in drinks. My all time favorite is the Lavender Fizz from the Blue Goose Speakeasy in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Since I don't often go out for drinks, creating lavender cocktails at home is always a fun treat for me. This margarita combines classic tequila, fresh lime juice, and Cointreau with a homemade lavender syrup for a floral twist that feels fresh and elegant.

The homemade lavender syrup adds a soft botanical flavor that pairs beautifully with the bright citrus and smooth tequila without overpowering the drink. Served over ice with a salted or sugared rim and a garnish of lime wedges or fresh lavender, this cocktail is as pretty as it is delicious. Whether you’re hosting a brunch, celebrating patio season, or just treating yourself to a fun happy hour at home, these Lavender Margaritas are a refreshing cocktail that feels extra special.

Recipe tips and substitution ideas:

  • For the best flavor, use culinary grade lavender and avoid over steeping the syrup, as lavender can quickly become too strong or soapy tasting. Freshly squeezed lime juice makes a huge difference in the overall flavor of the cocktail. Let the lavender syrup cool completely before mixing so it doesn’t water down the drink or melt the ice too quickly. If you don't have fresh lavender for garnish, sprinkle some dried lavender flower over top instead.
  • If you prefer a stronger floral flavor, add a little extra lavender syrup a teaspoon at a time, tasting as you go. For a smoother cocktail, use a quality blanco tequila and shake well so everything is thoroughly chilled and combined. If rimming the glasses, a sugar rim pairs beautifully with the floral notes, while salt gives a more classic margarita taste.
  • You can easily customize this lavender margarita to fit your preferences or what you have on hand. Triple sec or Grand Marnier can be used in place of Cointreau, and if you don’t have blanco tequila, a quality reposado will add a slightly warmer flavor. Bottled lime juice can work in a pinch, but freshly squeezed gives the best flavor. If you want a more vibrant purple color, add a small amount of purple food coloring gel to the lavender syrup.
  • If you don’t have culinary lavender, you can use a store bought lavender syrup to save time, or even try my homemade lilac syrup for a different floral twist. Maple syrup, honey or brown sugar can be used in place of the granulated sugar when making the syrup. You can also turn this into a mocktail by skipping the tequila and orange liqueur and replacing them with sparkling water, lemonade, or a splash of orange juice for a refreshing alcohol free version.
