My family has always loved Rice Krispie Treats, so I thought it would be fun to give this classic favorite a spooky little makeover! We usually make our Rice Krispie Treats from scratch, but for this recipe, I decided to keep things extra simple and use the prepackaged ones. They're a great time saving shortcut, especially when you're making treats with kids or getting ready for a Halloween party.
These adorable Monster Rice Krispie Treats are perfect for Halloween parties, lunchbox surprises, or even a monster themed birthday party! You can also turn them into a fun afternoon activity by pairing them with a monster themed book or a Halloween learning activity. They're almost too cute to eat... almost!

Recipe tips:
- Store your Monster Rice Krispie Treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days to keep them fresh. These adorable treats can also be made ahead and frozen! Simply wrap each monster individually in plastic wrap, place them in a freezer safe Ziploc bag, and freeze for up to two months. Feel free to use any color candy melts you like to create all kinds of fun and colorful monsters!
- Once the candy coating has hardened, use edible markers to draw silly faces, mouths, or other monster features. You can also add sprinkles before the candy melts set for even more personality. For little hands, try inserting a popsicle stick into the bottom of each Rice Krispie Treat to make them easier to hold and decorate.
- If you have leftover melted candy, don't let it go to waste! Drizzle it over pretzels or potato chips for a delicious sweet and salty snack. And while store bought Rice Krispies Treats are a fantastic time saving shortcut, you can absolutely make your own homemade bars instead!
Swaps and additions:
- Swap the traditional Rice Krispies Treats for homemade bars, chocolate Rice Krispies Treats, or even Fruity Pebbles Treats for an extra colorful twist. Instead of candy melts, you can use melted white chocolate with oil based candy coloring. Mix and match different colors like purple, green, orange, pink, and blue to create your own silly monsters!
- Get creative with decorations by adding candy eyes in different sizes, mini M&M's, sprinkles, candy corn, mini marshmallows, or colorful decorating icing. You can even use mini chocolate chips for eyes, crushed Oreos for monster hair, or small pieces of licorice for funny mouths.
- For a little extra flavor, drizzle the finished treats with melted chocolate or sprinkle them with crushed cookies or festive Halloween sprinkles before the candy coating hardens. You can also cut homemade Rice Krispies Treats into different shapes and sizes to make each monster completely unique. The best part is letting the kids use their imaginations to create their own spooky, silly, or adorable monster designs!
