Recipe tips and substitution ideas:
- Fresh toppings like romaine lettuce, baby spinach, sliced tomatoes, red onion, avocado, or cucumber add great crunch and freshness to the sandwich. For a cheesy twist, you can add shaved Parmesan, provolone, mozzarella, Swiss, or Havarti. To boost flavor, try crispy bacon, pancetta, roasted red peppers, sun dried tomatoes, or even pickled banana peppers or jalapeños for a bit of heat. Ciabatta is ideal for its texture, but you can also use sourdough, baguette, hoagie rolls, or even focaccia.
- If you have chicken breasts instead of cutlets, pound the chicken breasts to an even thickness before cooking. This helps them cook more evenly and stay juicy.
- If you prefer grilled chicken, this sandwich is just as delicious with chicken cooked on the grill or in an air fryer.
- You can prep the Caesar dressing and cook the chicken ahead of time. Just reheat the chicken and assemble when ready.

Chicken Caesar Sandwich
Make the best Chicken Caesar Sandwich at home with crisp ciabatta, seasoned chicken, and rich, homemade Caesar dressing—perfect for any meal!
Ingredients
- For the dressing:
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 2 teaspoons anchovy paste (or 4 anchovy filets)
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- pinch of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
- For the sandwich:
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 4 ciabatta rolls, sliced in half
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breast cutlets
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- ½ cup Caesar dressing
- 2 cups romaine lettuce, chopped
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Dressing:
- In a food processor or blender, combine the mayonnaise, Parmesan cheese, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, anchovy paste (or anchovies), minced garlic, salt, and black pepper. Blend until smooth.
- While blending, slowly drizzle in the olive oil to emulsify the dressing until creamy.
- Taste and adjust seasoning as needed with more salt, pepper, or lemon juice.
- Transfer the dressing to a jar or airtight container and refrigerate until ready to use.
- Stir before serving. Dressing keeps in the fridge for up to 1 week.
- Sandwiches:
- Preheat a skillet over medium heat.
- Add 1 tablespoon of butter to the skillet and swirl to coat.
- Place two ciabatta roll halves (cut side down) in the skillet. Toast until golden brown. Remove toasted rolls and repeat with the remaining rolls. Set aside.
- Season chicken breasts with salt and pepper.
- Increase skillet heat to medium-high and add two tablespoons olive oil. Cook the chicken for 6–8 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).
- Remove chicken from the skillet and let it rest for a few minutes.
- To assemble the sandwiches, spread a generous amount of Caesar dressing on the bottom and top half of each ciabatta roll.
- Add the chicken breast, then top with lettuce and parmesan cheese, then place the top half of the ciabatta roll on top. Serve immediately.
