Recipe tips and substitution ideas:

  • You can add minced garlic or a dash of garlic powder for extra flavor, and a pinch of crushed red pepper for a little heat. Swap the dried minced onion for fresh diced onion if you prefer, and use any type of bun you like. This recipe also works great with ground turkey, pork, or chicken instead of ground beef.
  • Feel free to customize these sloppy joes with your favorite add-ins to make them your own! You can stir in sautéed bell peppers, jalapeños, or caramelized onions for added flavor and texture. A few slices of dill pickles or a handful of crispy French fried onions on top add that classic fast food crunch. For an extra kick, try mixing in hot sauce, pickled jalapeños, or even a splash of BBQ sauce. You can also layer on shredded lettuce or coleslaw for a fresh bite.
