Breakfast is hands down my favorite meal of the day, and I truly can’t start my morning without something good to eat. Most weekdays feel rushed as we’re out the door for work and school, and our afternoons and evenings stay just as busy with piano lessons, Girl Scouts, and everything in between. Because of that, it takes a little creativity to make sure we’re still eating nourishing meals and snacks, even when life feels nonstop.

One of our favorite ways to sneak more fruit into the day is with Smoothie Bowls made from frozen dragon fruit, mixed berries, banana, and milk. They’re quick, filling, and endlessly customizable with fruit and nuts on top. These smoothie bowls are also perfect for any breakfast or brunch gathering as a Smoothie Bowl Bar, whether it’s Christmas morning brunch, a business meeting breakfast, or the morning after a kid’s sleepover. Everyone gets to choose their own toppings, even picky eaters are happy, and breakfast is served with minimal stress.

Recipe tips and substitution ideas:

  • For the thickest smoothie bowl, use mostly frozen fruit and add the milk a little at a time until it blends smoothly. Let the frozen fruit sit out for a few minutes before blending to make it easier on your blender. A high speed blender works best for a creamy texture, and blending on low first before increasing the speed helps everything combine evenly. For serving, add toppings right away so they stay fresh and don’t sink into the smoothie.
  • You can swap the milk for almond milk, oat milk or coconut milk. Frozen mango or pineapple can replace some or all of the mixed berries. If you want extra protein, blend in Greek yogurt, protein powder, or nut butter, and for toppings, try granola, coconut flakes, chia seeds, hemp seeds, or any fresh fruit you have on hand.
