Spending some time in Houston? Check out what we did and the food we tried! Turkey Legs, Tacos, BBQ, Cider, rollercoaster, shopping and more!

Earlier this month, I had the pleasure of taking a trip to Houston and Galveston!

This was my first time in Texas, and I had an absolute blast!

We stayed at the Hampton Inn and Suites in Downtown Houston. It was conveniently located near restaurants, bars, stadiums and more! I always stay at Hilton hotels, and Hampton is one of my favorites! The complementary breakfast was great and the room was clean and comfy. We opted for valet parking after the lots pricing was inflated due to sporting events downtown.

One place that should be on this list, but we didn't get to see is the Gerald D. Hines Waterwall Park. It was closed for maintenance the day we tried to visit, but I will defintely check it out during my next visit.

Of course, time flew by and we didn't get to do as much as we wanted, but this is a glimpse of what we explored. Food is always most important and we loved every bite of what we tried!

Velvet Taco 907 Westheimer Rd Suite A

Velvet Taco Houston, Texas

Oh my goodness. We stopped at Velvet Taco after our Uber driver recommended it to us and I'm SO glad we did! It wasn't on the list originally, but it's well worth the stop!

We tried the margarita, Fish and Chips Taco, Rotisserie Chicken Taco and Shrimp and Grits Taco. The shrimp and grits taco was hands down amazing, but they were all perfectly seasoned, filling and delicious!

The restaurant is fun, busy and has such a great vibe!

The Galleria  5085 Westheimer Rd

The Galleria Houston, Texas

If you're looking to do some shopping while you're in Houston, check out this huge shopping mall!

It is the largest mall in Texas and it features a skating rink!

We stopped at a few stores during our visit and came home with some new clothes!

Turkey Leg Hut 4830 Almeda Rd Suite a/b

Turkey Leg Hut Houston, Texas

Turkey Leg hut came highly recommended by my friend, Jade, who visits her family in Houston often!

This place is BUSY! Make sure to come early, and prepare to wait in line. It's worth the wait, promise!

You can find stuffed turkey legs, glazed turkey legs and a huge variety of other foods, specials of the day, drinks and more.

The service was great and the food was even better!

I tried the mint lemonade, which was pretty much heaven, the shrimp alfredo stuffed turkey leg, ummm delicious and we also tried the special that day which was the turkey and shrimp tamales!

Everything was tasty. If spicy isn't your thing, make sure to order carefully. Most of our meal was spicy.

Turkey Leg Hut offers shade, benches and bottled water during the wait in line. It's also a great chance to check out the menu and make some new friends!

This is a must stop!

Kemah Boardwalk 215 Kipp Ave, Kemah

Kemah Boardwalk Amusement Park Kemah, Texas

Kemah Boardwalk was my first amusement park experience on a boardwalk!

Just a 20 minute drive from downtown Houston, this boardwalk is fun, peaceful and has a beautiful view!

Shannon and I decided to ride the roller coaster and after that I realized I'm not so young anymore haha! I screamed like a toddler on the whole ride.

We also sat on the benches and enjoyed the view, did some shopping and had a couple frozen drinks! It's defintely a fun time for adults and kids.

Stingray Reef at Kemah Boardwalk

Stingray Reef at Kemah Boardwalk Texas

Whole you're visiting the boardwalk, make sure to stop at the Stingray Reef!

It's super reasonable and you can pet the stingrays, and for an additional fee, feed them!

They also have fish aquariums, an alligator, frogs, snakes, turtle and more!

The stingrays are adorable and they put on quite a show for your attention!

Captain Foxheart's Bad News Bar & Spirit Lodge 308 Main St

Captain Foxheart's Bad News Bar & Spirit Lodge Houston, texas

It was such a gorgeous night we went in search of a balcony or roof top to have some drinks!

We stumbled upon the Bad News Bar and enjoyed some drinks on their balcony.

The bar is quite hidden with no sign visible outside. After a walk up a dark stairway, you arrive at the bar upstairs! It's a cool and unique place with a gorgeous balcony and it almost feels like you're walking back in time!

The House Daiquiri is delicious!

Saint Arnold Brewing Company 2000 Lyons Ave

Saint Arnold Brewing Company Houston, Texas

This was defintely my favorite place in Houston!

We came for some food and cider and stumbled across a Renaissance Festival celebration outside!

The food, cider and service was outstanding. The decor inside is amazing and so beautiful to look at with all the painted walls.

I had the mushroom pizza and fried green tomatoes. We also sampled the other plates at the table and everything we tried was two thumbs up!

The outside is super fun! You can find giant sized games everywhere, a big screen TV, fountain and a wonderful view of downtown Houston.

If you're timing is right, go on a tour of the brewery next door!

Pappas Bar-B-Q 8560 Gulf Freeway

Pappas Bar-B-Q Houston, Texas

You can find Pappas all over the Houston area!

The one we visited is super close to the airport and after a recommendation to stop at Pappas from the guy at Enterprise, we knew we had to stop!

There is such a great selection of meat, sides and condiments. The sweet tea was delicious! I had a ham sandwich on the cheddar jalapeno bun and the rice. Both were delicious and it's worth the extra money to upgrade your bun to the jalapeno cheddar!

Everyone enjoyed their meals!
