These fun and festive Jell-O stars are a perfect way to celebrate Independence Day! They’re so easy to make that even young kids can help, or older kids can make them on their own.
They’re ideal as a finger food for toddlers too. The soft texture makes them fun to explore, and using smaller star cutters makes them easier for little hands to grab.
You can easily customize these for any occasion by switching up the colors and flavors. Great for birthday parties, holidays, or themed events. Try different red Jell-O flavors like cherry or raspberry, no matter the combo, these Jell-O stars are always a hit!

Recipe tips and substitution ideas:
- I like to use the medium star cutter as it works best with a spatula to help scoop out the star, but it's also fun to use a variety of sizes too!
- Store in an airtight container and eat within 2 days.
- For the best stained glass Jell-O, pour each color into a shallow dish so it sets evenly and is easy to cut. Let each layer chill for at least 4 hours or overnight to avoid color bleeding. When ready to cut, dip your knife or cookie cutter in warm water for clean edges, and cut the Jell-O into small cubes or shapes to create that classic stained glass look when mixed with the white gelatin base.
- Use any flavor or color Jello you already have or love, and use any shape cutter instead of the red and blue I used.

Red White and Blue Jello Stars
Celebrate the 4th of July with these Red, White, and Blue stained glass Jell-O Stars. This colorful and delicious dessert is simple to make and great for parties or cooking with kids.
Ingredients
- 1 - 6 ounce box berry blue Jell-O
- 1 - 6 ounce box strawberry Jell-O
- 5 1/2 cups boiling water (divided)
- 2 envelopes unflavored gelatin
- 1/2 cup cold water
- 1 - 14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk
- medium size star cookie cutters
Instructions
- Prepare blue Jell-O according to package directions and pour into a baking dish. Repeat with red Jell-O and pour into a different baking dish. Cover and chill at least 4 hours or overnight.
- In a large bowl, sprinkle 2 envelopes of unflavored gelatin into 1/2 cup cold water and allow to sit for 5 minutes. After the gelatin blooms (it will look mostly dissolved and get wrinkly on the surface), add 1 1/2 cups boiling water and stir to dissolve. Add the can of condensed milk and stir to combine; set aside to cool to room temperature.
- Cut the blue and red Jell-O into squares. Add them to a 9x13 glass baking dish.
- Pour the cooled sweeten condensed milk mixture over the red and blue jello squares in the baking dish. Cover and chill overnight.
- Cut with star cookie cutters. Serve immediately or place on platter, cover and refrigerate until serving.
