Looking for an easy, kid friendly meal idea? These Cheesy Sloppy Joe Crescent Rolls are a fun and tasty twist on a classic family favorite! The sloppy joe mixture is based on my mom’s beloved recipe that we all grew up with. It’s more of a tangy barbecue style sauce, but you can absolutely swap in your own version if you prefer.
The mix of saucy beef (or ground turkey for a more budget friendly option) and melty cheese wrapped in flaky crescent rolls is always a hit. These make a great quick dinner on busy weeknights or a fun lunch on the weekend.
It’s also a perfect recipe to get kids involved in the kitchen. Depending on their age, they can help dice the onion, measure ingredients, separate the crescent dough, fill each roll, and more!

Recipe tips and substitution ideas:
- Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days. These are best reheated in an air fryer or oven, but the microwave works too!
- Use freshly shredded cheese for the best flavor and melting.
- Instead of ground beef, try using ground turkey, chicken, or even a plant based meat alternative for a lighter or vegetarian version. Cheddar cheese is a classic choice, but feel free to switch it up with mozzarella, pepper jack, or your favorite cheese blend. No crescent dough? Pizza dough or biscuit dough can also work well and give you a slightly different texture. Spicy ketchup is a fun swap too!
- Be careful not to overfill each triangle, just a spoonful of meat and cheese will help prevent them from bursting while baking. You can also prepare the sloppy joe mixture ahead of time and store it in the fridge, making assembly even quicker for busy days. For a little extra nutrition, finely dice veggies like bell peppers, mushrooms, or shredded zucchini and cook them with the meat mixture. This is a great way to sneak in extra flavor and texture without changing the classic taste.

Sloppy Joe Crescent Rolls
Sloppy Joe Crescent Rolls are a fun and tasty twist on a classic weeknight favorite! Saucy ground beef, melty cheddar, and a hint of sweetness are all wrapped in golden, buttery crescent dough.
Ingredients
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 3/4 cup ketchup
- 1 1/2 tablespoons yellow mustard
- 2 1/2 tablespoons light brown sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 - 8 ounce (8 count) packages crescent rolls
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, chopped onion, and minced garlic until the beef is browned and cooked through.
- Stir in the ketchup, mustard, brown sugar, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 3–4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is heated through and slightly thickened.
- Unroll the crescent dough and separate into individual triangles.
- Spoon a portion of the beef mixture onto each crescent triangle. Sprinkle shredded cheese over the beef, then gently press the mixture into the dough with the back of a spoon.
- Carefully roll up each crescent, starting from the wide end, and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Brush the tops with melted butter, then sprinkle with seasoned salt.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the crescents are golden brown and the cheese is melted.
