Recipe tips and substitution ideas:

  • Delicious with cinnamon pita chips, tortilla chips, or served as a flavorful topping for tacos, nachos, grilled fish, or shrimp.
  • This is best enjoyed fresh, but you can store it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 24 hours.
  • When working with jalapeños, it’s a good idea to wear gloves to protect your hands from the spicy oils that can linger and cause irritation, especially if you accidentally touch your eyes. Start by slicing off the stem, then cut the jalapeño in half lengthwise. To reduce the heat, use a small spoon to scrape out the seeds and white membrane, which hold most of the spice. Rinse the halves under cold water to remove any leftover oils or seeds. Once cleaned, you can dice, slice, or chop the jalapeño as needed. Wash your hands thoroughly afterward, even if you used gloves!
  • You can add fresh diced peaches for extra sweetness, or skip the honey if you prefer a more savory flavor. Swap the jalapeño for bell pepper for a milder salsa, and try mixing in fresh diced tomatoes and a bit of fresh minced garlic for even more depth.
