Snickers Salad is one of those classic Midwestern recipes that instantly brings back memories. It was a childhood favorite of mine, and I always got excited when I spotted a bowl of it at a potluck, family gathering, holiday meal, or church supper. Honestly, I can't believe I've never shared this recipe in the 15 years since I started this website! It's one of those nostalgic dishes that seems to show up at every celebration and somehow disappears just as quickly.

This sweet "salad" combines tart Granny Smith apples, chunks of Snickers bars, fluffy whipped topping, vanilla pudding, and mini marshmallows into a creamy, crunchy dessert that everyone loves. The tart apples balance the sweetness perfectly, while the candy bars add caramel, chocolate, and peanut flavor in every bite. Whether you serve it as a side dish or dessert, Snickers Salad is always a crowd pleaser and a recipe that never goes out of style.

Recipe tips and substitution ideas:

  • For the best flavor and texture, use Granny Smith apples since their tartness balances the sweetness of the pudding and candy bars. Chop the apples and Snickers into bite sized pieces so you get a little bit of everything in each bite. Chilling the salad for at least an hour helps the flavors blend together and gives the pudding mixture time to thicken. If you're making it ahead, consider stirring in the apples shortly before serving to keep them crisp. For the prettiest presentation, reserve a few chopped Snickers bars, apples, and marshmallows to sprinkle on top just before serving. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  • You can customize this salad with different ingredients based on your preferences. Try using Honeycrisp, Pink Lady, or Fuji apples instead of Granny Smith for a sweeter flavor. Swap the Snickers bars for Milky Way, Twix, Butterfinger, Heath, or Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups for a fun variation. French vanilla or cheesecake pudding mix can be substituted for vanilla pudding. Homemade whipped cream can be used instead of whipped topping, but keep in mind the texture will be a little different and generally less stable after chilling. You can also add extras like chopped peanuts, toffee bits, caramel sauce, or even a handful of grapes.
